Butter & Filth
Desire, simply put, is to say “I want”. In order to get what you want, you must first believe you are worthy of receiving. On the surface, Butter & Filth looks like a pole dance studio. But it’s actually so much more than that. Its a place where you go to explore the boundlessness of your own feminine erotic. A dedicated space to contend with need, desire, and becoming in a creative way.
Feminine pleasure and intellect is the center of B&F. When you’re tuned in with what makes you feel good, and when you know how to get it, cultural, economic, and sexual wealth is redistributed.
Butter & Filth is a petri dish for bad bitches who invite uniqueness, possibility and growth into their lives.
Choosing yourself has never been sexier.
Mission
We believe in uniqueness, possibility, and growth. We believe that exotic dance can lead to personal salvation and desire is a form of self love. We believe that when you love yourself, your genius flows, and sexual energy increases. We believe you contain multitudes, and we believe that creativity and trust is the driving force of sexual consciousness. At Butter & Filth, we believe that the sexiest thing you can be is yourself.
You do you. Fuck everything else.
History
B&F began as a temporary creative project for extra money during the summer of 2017. I was a full time adjunct professor, and pole dance instructor for nearly a decade, searching for a way to supplement my income for the summer months in way that served my creative research. Butter & Filth was conceived as a series of pole dance work shops that injected stripper philosophy and psychology into pole dance fitness spaces, which either lacked or fully rejected pole’s ties to the club. We did three United States tours in 6 months.
This interruption of pole status quo was extremely well received, happening at a time of shift in the pole industries consciousness. From there, Butter & Filth became a brick and mortar studio, focusing on serving the Richmond, Va community specifically, which had been my support for so long. What began as a two person collaboration, is now a mid six figure company that employs a team of artists, admin staff, and has a work study program for folks unable to afford classes.
